First Week Fun

We had a terrific week in first grade. We ended our week exploring new math stations and had our first experience with technology in our classroom. On Friday, students used their Google Accounts to log-on to Chrome books. This is a very challenging task, as students need to type in their last name, first initial, the @ symbol and "hartfordschools.net" Phew! I'm exhausted just saying it all. Many students were able to log-in however! I was very impressed. We will be using technology like this and much more throughout the year.

I hope you all enjoy some beautiful weather over the long weekend!

Math Time!

Today we spent some time exploring various math manipulatives and learning how to work at Math Stations. We took a closer look at Counting Noodles, Polydrons, Unifix Cubes and Polygons. We will be spending more time with these stations throughout the week.

Art? P.E.? Library?

I have just added a "Specials Schedule" tab to this blog. Be sure to check it out to see when we have P.E., Art, Library, and Music. This way your child can be dressed appropriately for each activity.

Ready or Not...Here We Go!

What a fabulous day! It started with a wonderful greeting from 20 families and friends. Thank you to all who brought in school supplies for the classroom. It is much appreciated. We spent the morning getting to know each other and learning some of our classroom routines. Next, we met for an All School Assembly to review our PBIS school-wide rules and visited various stations to review our expected behavior. After lunch, we were able to have Library and many students checked out their first books of the year. We spent the afternoon learning about our classroom, creating a color book, and creating a list of things students need in order to be successful. We will take this list and, over the next few days, create a student contract that will become our classroom rules for behavior.

I am very excited to be working with all of you. Today was a great day, and I cannot wait to experience many more to come. As always, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Summer Adventures Continued...

MADYLYN: "Madylyn has had a very busy summer. We had her oldest brother Ethan's birthday party at the Competition Complex and are having her youngest brother Cayden's party next weekend.  Madylyn learned to ride a bike without training wheels in one day. We went to Lake Pineo & the Aquatic Center a lot this summer and she learned to swim without a floatie.  Madylyn lost her first tooth and has another wiggly tooth on the bottom.  She has gone fishing and caught some fish, slept in the tent outside a few times this summer, and went to some parades too. This past week we went to Old Orchard Beach.  While we we're there we went in the ocean and played on the beach, went to York Zoo, went on a lot of rides, watched fireworks & played in the pool at the hotel."

More Summer Adventures!

Many of us have been very busy, enjoying our summer! Here are a few students and what they have been up to. If you would like to share what you have been up to, please make sure to email me raneyn@hartfordschools.net

SADIE: "Our summer didn't start out the greatest. Sadie goes to camp sunshine and recently broke her collarbone while playing on the playground. She's now doing much better. Our summer has consisted of family get together's, camping, swimming, tubing. Lots of day trips. Overall just a great summer and Sadie is looking forward to 1st grade."

THOMAS: "Thomas and his family are enjoying every moment of summer. He has been to golf camp, art camp and Old Orchard Beach Maine. He's visited with his cousins from Virginia and his cousins that live nearby. He learned to ride a bike with no training wheels and went underwater in the ocean for the first time!! He's lost one of his top front teeth and the other one is ready to come out too!"
