Read, Read, Read for Brain-O-Mania Week!

This week students are asked to turn off their screens and reactivate their brains. One way to do this is to read. Students can read with a friend, with a sibling, to a parent or on their own. For every 15 minutes they read during this week, they will earn one otter point. The classroom with the most otter points at the end of the week earns a pizza party with our DBS Otter! SO, make sure your child is reading and send them in with a slip each day telling me how much they read.

April Vacation Activities

Students were asked to write about something they did over vacation. We are working on writing an introductory sentence as well as a closing statement. Students also needed to create an illustration that would enhance their writing piece. Follow the link below to view our "Padlet" of student work:

Visiting The Norwich Animal Hospital

We had such a fun time visiting the Norwich Animal Hospital today. We toured the facilities, seeing the examination room, x-ray room and surgery room. We also got to look at various x-rays and figured out what each x-ray was a picture of.

It's Fall You Tube Video

This was created back in September. Each student created a page of this book. We got our information from the story, "It's Fall" by Linda Glaser. From this class book, students also wrote a report about the changes that happen in fall.

It's Electric!

Today we explored different materials that may conduct electricity. Students used a circuit box to test out their predictions. They tested paper, washer, toothpick, paper clip, penny, straw, yellow clip and foil. Using their evidence from the experiment, they discovered all the metallic items (foil, penny, paper clip, washer) were able to conduct electricity, while the nonmetallic items (yellow chip, paper, straw, toothpick) were unable to allow electricity to pass through, making them insulators. It was a great experiment! In the end, students were able to identify other conductors and insulators around the room. Make sure you ask them about this :-)
