Dissecting Unhatched Chickens!

We successfully hatch 5 out of 12 chicken eggs! This was very exciting...but what to do with the remaining 7 eggs? Well, dissect them of course! We took a very close look at the undeveloped embryos. Students investigated the eggs and tried to determine at which stage in development the embryos stopped developing. This was a really fun science inquiry!

Billing's Farm Visit

We had a great time at Billing's Farm last week. Although a bit chilly, the students enjoyed seeing cows, calves, sheep and chickens. We walked through the farm museum as well and students were able to help churn butter. It was a great culminating event for our Farm Unit.

We Have Chicks!

Two chicks broke out of their shells last night! There is one more trying to break through today! We're keeping our fingers crossed!

*Update: We had a total of 5 chicks that hatched! We had four black ones and one yellow chick. The students were very excited. They will be going home with one of DBS's 5th grade teachers soon.
