Hanging Around

With the air a little cooler, and the sun shining, first graders have been enjoying the outdoors with their classmates.

Typing Club

We entered a new adventure on our computers today. Students learned about Typingclub.com and explored the how to's of typing.

Fundations

Candid Recess Moments

Day Two and Computers!

Everyone was very excited last week to learn we would be using lots of different technology within our classroom. On Day 2, students learned how to login to our classroom computers as well as how to log off of them and use a digital paint program. They all did very well, and I'm happy to report that now, just one week later, several students are already able to login independently! Way to go first graders!!!!

Working Together!

With the weather being as hot as it has been, the first graders have done a great job adapting to the heat and making the most of their school day. This afternoon, we were able to take a break from it all and enjoy each other's company while using Legos and building blocks. I watched students display a vast amount of expected behavior, from sharing their materials to making creative scenes as a collective group.

Garbage, Bump and Police Officers!

This week we have also been learning various math games. Students are getting familiar with "Garbage" and "Bump". Today, we had a surprise visit from Officer Scelza and Officer St. Peter from the Hartord Police dept. They were able to join us for a few games.

iPads and Geoboards

One of the Math Stations this week allowed students to create different Geoboard designs. Students then took those designs and had to recreate them on an iPad.

Introducing Math Stations

In first grade, we use Math Stations often. During this times, students are able to rotate between various math activities (stations) to help reinforce mathematical concepts that have been taught within the classroom. To start off, students are learning how to stay self-sufficient, how to work with partners successfully, and how to transition between stations.

Getting Outside

It sure has been warm these first weeks of school, but I think everyone has enjoyed being reunited with their friends as well as making new friends along the way.
