Friday Fun

Today we counted our Otter Buck collection for the week. We earned $269 worth of positive behavior! We were all very proud of our accomplishment and what a great way to count numbers above 100!

Another thing that has gone very smoothly, is ending our day with an extra snack. It has been very calming for all and a great time to socialize with each other before the day comes to a close.

Math Stations

This week we worked on counting by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. We represented those numbers with tally marks, popsicle sticks and pennies and nickels. We also introduced Math Work Places. Students explored unifix cubes, pattern blocks, dominoes, geoboards and polydrons.

Colors and Writing

This week we have been reviewing our color words and creating color sentences. Students are brushing up on their handwriting skills as well. We will continue to build on their handwriting as well as move into a more formal Writer's Workshop model as the year progresses.

Technology in First

Students were excited to hear we will be using various technology tools to assist in our learning this year. So far students have used iPads and had fun with GoNoodle.com. Here are some pictures from this week:

First Day of School Frames

We had a wonderful first day of school. It was great to see so many smiling faces at the beginning of the day. In our classroom, we do not have assigned seats. Over the next couple of weeks, students will slowly gain the independence of choosing a space in which they can be most successful. We work strongly on self-advocacy and being aware of your individual needs as a learner. Everyone did pretty well with navigating their way around the room, and demonstrated flexibility in sharing their learning space with others.

Here are some 1st Day Frame pics:
