New Intern in Our Classroom

Starting on Monday, we will be welcoming Miss Veronica Leonard to our classroom. She will be at Dothan Brook on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until mid-May. She is a senior at Dartmouth College, and aspires to be a first grade teacher. She is from Washington, DC. She has taught 1st and 2nd graders English as a second language in the Marshall Islands. Also, this past summer she interned as a preschool assistant teacher in Washington, DC.

Triangles and Quadrilaterals

This week we had a lot of fun using iPads, walking around the school, looking for different quadrilaterals and triangles. They were surprised by the number of polygons we found. Once we returned to class, we collected all of the pictures and highlighted each polygon hidden within the picture. We also enjoyed using geoboards for the first time.

Geometry

We began learning about geometry this week, although we didn't get very far with the two snow days tucked in the middle of this week. We began looking at and identifying various shapes. Students should be able to identify the following shapes:

We also began to talk about symmetry and how shapes can be symmetrical. These are some of the creations they made this week:

Enjoying a S'more treat today with Mr. D!

As a celebration of all the positive behaviors that happened during the month of February, Mr. D treated each classroom to s'mores today! It was a surprise treat for all. They all enjoyed the gooey goodness!
